How much does SimpliSafe cost in 2026? Equipment lists for about $251 to $734, depending on the package. Monitoring runs from $0 (no plan) to $79.99 a month. The two independent price guides we checked, SafeWise and Security.org, report the same package prices and plan tiers. A typical setup is The Starter kit ($282.94 list) plus Core monitoring ($32.99/month). That comes to about $679 in year one and about $2,262 over five years. Equipment is usually discounted, and monitoring is where most of the long-term cost sits.

SimpliSafe’s own plan pages now quote monitoring in daily prices: 33¢, 76¢, $1.10, $1.66 and $2.66. Independent reviewers convert these to monthly prices of $9.99, $22.99, $32.99, $49.99 and $79.99, and we use those monthly figures below.
List price versus promotion: the prices in this article are list prices unless we say otherwise. SimpliSafe often cuts package prices. Security.org says discounts can reach 60 percent, and SafeWise has noted offers such as 50 percent off or a free camera with a monitored system. We could not verify a specific current Starter promotion, so we don’t quote a sale price for it. Check the live offer before you buy.
SimpliSafe Equipment Packages and Prices
SimpliSafe sells seven main packages, or you can build your own. The prices below are list prices from SafeWise and Security.org, which match each other. The official Starter package page lists the kit contents but didn’t display prices when we loaded it.
| Package | List price | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| The Foundation | $250.96 | Base station, keypad, 1 entry sensor, 1 motion sensor |
| The Starter | $282.94 | Foundation plus 2 more entry sensors, yard sign |
| The Hearth | $437.91 | Starter plus key fob, 105 dB siren, smoke detector |
| The Lighthouse | $482.93 | Starter plus outdoor camera |
| The Knox | $520.87 | 6 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, key fob, siren, smoke detector |
| The Haven | $558.86 | 4 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, siren, panic button, freeze, water and smoke sensors |
| The Beacon | $733.90 | 4 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, 2 outdoor cameras |
Starter and entry-level systems
The Foundation and The Starter cover small spaces. The Foundation has one entry sensor, so it suits a studio or a one-door apartment. The Starter adds two more entry sensors and works for a small home with a front door, a back door and a few windows you want covered. Security.org tested the system and says the install took under an hour using plug-in and adhesive-mount parts.
Larger equipment packages
The Hearth, Knox and Haven add sensors and extras: a louder 105 dB siren, a smoke detector, and in The Haven’s case flood and freeze sensors. The Lighthouse and Beacon are the packages with outdoor cameras. These matter if you want the outdoor protection included in the Pro and Pro Plus plans. For larger homes, add up your doors, windows and floors before choosing. A bigger package can cost less than buying the same parts one at a time.
Building a custom system
You can build your own system by choosing a base station, a keypad and the sensors and cameras you need. SimpliSafe also sells refurbished packages. Independent reviewers generally advise starting from a package, because bundles tend to be discounted more than individual parts. If you are choosing between brands, our home security system buying guide lists what to check before you buy.
SimpliSafe Monthly Monitoring Plans Compared
You can compare the plans on SimpliSafe’s monitoring page and in its support documentation. All professional plans can be tried free for one month with no contract.
| Plan | Monthly price* | Dispatch | Video | Outdoor protection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings | $9.99 | No (you respond) | Recordings, 30-day storage | No |
| Standard | $22.99 | Yes, 24/7 | No recordings or verification | No |
| Core | $32.99 | Yes, 24/7 | Verified alarms, recordings | No |
| Pro | $49.99 | Yes, 24/7 | Same as Core | Overnight, 8 pm to 6 am |
| Pro Plus | $79.99 | Yes, 24/7 | Same as Core | 24/7 |
*Monthly prices as reported by SafeWise and Security.org. SimpliSafe lists the same plans at 33¢, 76¢, $1.10, $1.66 and $2.66 per day.
Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings
At $9.99 a month, this plan adds unlimited camera recordings with 30-day cloud storage for up to 10 cameras. It does not include professional dispatch. If an alarm goes off, you decide whether to call the police yourself. It suits people who mainly want video history and smart-home integrations such as Alexa and Google Assistant arming.
Standard
Standard ($22.99) gives you 24/7 professional monitoring and a request for police dispatch. It does not include camera recordings or video verification, per SimpliSafe’s plan page. It is the cheapest way to get a human response, and it works well if you don’t use cameras.
Core
Core ($32.99) adds video verification, which SimpliSafe says can lead to faster police response than unverified alarms. It also adds Intruder Intervention with the Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera, where agents can see and talk to an intruder during an alarm. You get unlimited recordings, smart-home integrations, and SimpliSafe’s Anti-Theft Guarantee of up to $500 toward an insurance deductible after a break-in, under SimpliSafe’s terms. Security.org says Core suits most people. That is their judgment, not a measured result.
Pro
Pro ($49.99) is Core plus overnight Active Guard Outdoor Protection, from 8 pm to 6 am local time. AI flags activity on an outdoor camera or video doorbell, and live agents can speak through the camera, sound the siren and turn on the spotlight. This requires an outdoor camera or video doorbell. SimpliSafe says the outdoor camera must be plugged in with its power cable to use the feature.
Pro Plus
Pro Plus ($79.99) provides the same outdoor protection 24/7. Security.org notes that comparable live-agent outdoor monitoring from other companies often costs more, such as Deep Sentinel starting around $100 a month. We haven’t verified those competitor figures ourselves.
How Much Do Individual SimpliSafe Devices Cost?
If you build a custom system or expand a package, these are the list prices reported by Security.org (Oct. 16, 2026) and SafeWise.
| Device | List price |
|---|---|
| Base station | $129.99 |
| Keypad | $69.99 |
| Entry sensor | $15.99 |
| Motion sensor | $34.99 |
| Glassbreak sensor | $39.99 |
| Key fob | $24.99 |
| Panic button | $19.99 |
| Water sensor | $19.99 |
| Temperature sensor | $29.99 |
| 105 dB siren | $59.99 |
| Smoke and CO detector | $69.99 |
| Smoke and CO alarm listener | $44.99 |
| Smart lock (Series 2) | $119.99 |
| Wireless indoor camera | $149.99 |
| Outdoor camera | $199.99 |
| Video doorbell (Series 2) | $199.99 |
| Yard sign | $3.99 |
Two small discrepancies: SafeWise lists an older Video Doorbell Pro at $169, while Security.org lists the Series 2 at $199.99, and we use the newer figure. Outdoor camera accessories include a solar panel ($79.99), an extra battery ($29.99) and a power cable ($29.99). Cameras are the priciest parts, so how many you add affects your total more than sensors do.
SimpliSafe First-Year, 3-Year and 5-Year Costs
Formula: total = equipment price + (months × monthly monitoring price).
Assumptions: The Starter at its $282.94 list price, monthly plan prices as above, no tax, no installation, no price changes over time. Real totals will differ if you buy on sale or if SimpliSafe changes its rates. These are estimates based on today’s rates. They also don’t subtract the free first month of monitoring, which would lower year one by one month’s fee if you start a plan.
| Setup | Year 1 | Year 3 | Year 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| No subscription | $282.94 | $282.94 | $282.94 |
| Self-Monitoring with Recordings | $402.82 | $642.58 | $882.34 |
| Standard | $558.82 | $1,110.58 | $1,662.34 |
| Core | $678.82 | $1,470.58 | $2,262.34 |
| Pro | $882.82 | $2,082.58 | $3,282.34 |
| Pro Plus | $1,242.82 | $3,162.58 | $5,082.34 |
A second scenario with outdoor protection: The Lighthouse ($482.93 list) already includes an outdoor camera, so it is the cheapest route to Pro. With Pro monitoring, that is $482.93 + $599.88 = $1,082.81 in year one, $482.93 + $1,799.64 = $2,282.57 by year three, and $482.93 + $2,999.40 = $3,482.33 by year five.
Over five years, a Core plan costs about $1,980 in fees against $283 in hardware. The monthly plan decides the long-term cost, not the starter kit. Larger homes will need more sensors and cameras, which raises the equipment line.
Can You Use SimpliSafe Without a Subscription?
Yes, but with limits. SimpliSafe says that without a plan the system still works as a siren but can’t request police dispatch or call you about a break-in. Security.org, which tested the system and then canceled monitoring, reported these features still worked without a plan:
- App alerts and remote control through the SimpliSafe app
- The siren, triggered automatically or by hand
- Live camera streaming to your phone
- Custom arming modes, to a degree
What you lose without a plan is professional dispatch, camera recordings and the cellular backup. Security.org says that if your internet goes down on a no-plan system, only the base station’s siren works. SafeWise also notes that live agents and smart-home integrations are unavailable. SimpliSafe’s own page promises only the siren, so confirm current app behavior at checkout. For other no-fee options, see our guide to alarm systems that work without professional monitoring.
Does SimpliSafe Have Hidden Fees?
SimpliSafe says it has no contracts, no cancellation fees and no hidden fees. Here is how costs split in practice:
Mandatory: the equipment you choose, plus sales tax where it applies.
Optional:
- Professional installation, from $124.99. Security.org says SimpliSafe uses a third-party installer, and prices rise with setup complexity.
- Monitoring, billed after the free month unless you cancel.
- Expedited shipping. SafeWise reports free ground shipping on new systems, with express at $30.81 and next-day at $54.51 at its last checkout test.
- Financing. SimpliSafe offers Affirm for orders of $150 or more. Reported terms conflict: Security.org describes 0 percent APR options, while SafeWise reported 22 percent or more on some longer plans. Read the terms Affirm shows you at checkout.
Depends on where you live: some cities require alarm permits or charge for false dispatches. The SimpliSafe pages we reviewed don’t quantify these, so check local rules.
Two protections to know: SimpliSafe offers a 60-day satisfaction guarantee with a full refund, and the lifetime equipment warranty applies while you have an active monitoring plan.
Is SimpliSafe Worth the Cost?
It depends on who you are:
- Renters: the system is wireless, and you can take it with you. A Starter kit plus Standard or Core is usually enough. Skip outdoor protection unless you have a porch or patio worth watching.
- Homeowners: a mid-size package with Core is the middle path. Add outdoor cameras only if you want Pro or Pro Plus.
- Budget-conscious buyers: buy on sale, start with the free month, and choose between Standard ($22.99) and Self-Monitoring ($9.99) based on whether you want dispatch.
- People who want active outdoor protection: Pro or Pro Plus is the point of those plans, but they cost $600 to $960 a year.

SimpliSafe vs. Ring Alarm: Which Costs Less?
On monthly fees, Ring costs less. According to our own Ring pricing research, Ring Pro is $19.99 a month with professional monitoring. SimpliSafe Core is $32.99, which is $13.00 a month more, or $468 over 36 months. Our Ring Alarm cost guide has the full Ring breakdown, including the equipment promotions that were current when we checked on October 14, 2026.
The two aren’t identical. SimpliSafe’s Core and higher plans add features such as agents who can speak to an intruder through the indoor camera, while Ring has a larger camera lineup.
